Citat:European Union leaders will call on Turkey to respect Cyprus’s sovereign rights, expressing “serious concern” at fresh tensions between the two countries over oil and gas exploration, a draft summit document showed Thursday.
The statement, to be issued at an EU summit in Brussels, comes after Cyprus on Monday slammed Turkey for sending a survey vessel into an area where the Cypriot government had already licensed exploratory drilling for oil and gas.
“The European Council expressed serious concern about the renewed tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean. It called on Turkey to respect Cyprus’ sovereign rights,” said the statement prepared for the 28 EU leaders meeting in Brussels and obtained by AFP.

Turkish Navy Enters Mediterranean, Armed With New Rules of Engagement
http://www.defensenews.com/article/20141110/DEFREG.....Engagement
Citat:The Turkish government recently amended the rules of naval engagement in the eastern Mediterranean but has not unveiled them. It handed over the new rules to the military general, staff which then communicated them to the Turkish Navy.
“We will act in line with these rules of engagement in the event we face a situation over this issue,” Adm. Bülent Bostanoglu, the naval forces commander, told reporters Nov. 9 as he participated in the Blue Whale 2014 naval exercise. “Our naval forces elements will continue their mission of situational awareness in the region.”
Those rules of engagement will be enacted in case Turkish naval vessels confront Cypriot, Egyptian or Israeli naval assets in the Mediterranean, military officials said.
Citat:Last week, Greek, Greek Cypriot and Egyptian leaders came together at a tripartite summit in Cairo where they discussed regional security and economic cooperation.
Greek Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades on Nov. 8 accused Turkey of “provocative actions” that he said were hindering the island’s peace talks and compromising security in the eastern Mediterranean.
Ankara issued a notice that a Turkish seismic vessel would carry out a survey until Dec. 30 in the same area where the Italian-Korean energy consortium ENI-Kogas is operating.
