The Syrian Armed Forces, backed by the paramilitary Desert Hawks fighters, resumed its military operation to recapture the ISIS-held Raqqa in northern Syria. Fierce battles erupted today whereby the government troops managed to recapture Thawrah oil fields and workers’ housing area to the northeast of Sfaiyeh oil field, thus posing less than 15 km to the south of the al-Tabqa Airbase.

According to an Al-Masdar field correspondent in Damascus City, the Syrian Armed Forces and their allies captured the Al-Bahariyah School and district tower after a violent battle with the Islamist rebels on Sunday evening.

The Syrian Arab Army’s 137th Brigade began the day by destroying the Islamic State’s main ammunition depot in the Panorama region of southwest Deir Ezzor, using powerful guided missiles to damage the terrorist group’s installation. Following the destruction of the Islamic State’s ammunition depot, another battalion from the 137th Brigade dug two tunnels under the terrorist controlled part of the Industrial District.
Some estimates from the Syrian Arab Army in Deir Ezzor claim that as many as 20 Islamic State terrorists were killed by these tunnel bombs.

The Islamist rebels of Ajnad Al-Sham launched a new offensive inside the strategic town of Darayya on Sunday night after losing a substantial amount of territory to the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) over the last five weeks. According to social media activists in support of the Syrian opposition, Ajnad Al-Sham attempted to reopen the road between Darayya and Mu’adhimiyah.
