BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:25 P.M.) - The battle for Palmyra has been incredibly intense over the last four hours, with the Islamic State terrorists steadily advancing along several axes in and around the city.

With help from the Russian Air Force, who carried out sorties for much of the day, the Syrian Arab Army was able to drive back the terrorist forces, killing over 35 militants before securing the entire T-4 Military Airport's defensive flanks.

"The militants have been driven out of all the quarters that remained under their control as a result of the Syrian troops’ offensive. During the operation, over 900 terrorists have been killed, dozens pieces of heavy weapons and other military equipment have been destroyed," Poznikhir said.

Syrian Army spoils Islamist offensive plans in East Ghouta
