According to the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), a patrol was traveling through the town of Quilá and identified Gastelum—who, after noticing the presence of authorities—attempted to flee, but was captured at a residence located along Lázaro Cárdenas street.

Rafael Caro Quintero, a Mexican Drug Lord suspected to have been involved in the murder of DEA Agent, Enrique "Kiki" Camarena Salazar in 1985, is one of 29 Senior Cartel Members that were extradited today to the United States by the Mexican Government. Those extradited include Leaders of the Los Chimales, Gulf Cartel, Los Zetas, Sinaloa Cartel and CJNG, as well as many other High-Ranking Criminals.
