Pion napunio 50 godina:
Citat:50 Years of 2S7 "Pion"
On April 15, 1975, the 2S7 "Pion" self-propelled gun was adopted into service.
Developed by the Kirov Plant Production Association (Ministry of Defense Industry) from 1970–1975 under CPSU Central Committee and USSR Council of Ministers Decree No. 427-151 of June 8, 1970.
Adopted by the Soviet Army under Decree No. 298-101 of April 15, 1975. Serial production began in 1975.
Purpose: Neutralization and suppression of tactical nuclear weapons, long-range artillery, enemy manpower, equipment, and tanks.
Manufacturers:
Overall system: Kirov Plant Production Association.
Gun: Volgograd Drilling Equipment Plant "Barrikady."
The 2S7 features a unique chassis design, with key undercarriage components—drive wheels, road wheels, support rollers, hydraulic shock absorbers, and tracks—borrowed from the T-80 tank.
The crew of seven is positioned as follows during movement: commander, gunner, and driver-mechanic in the armored cabin; the other four artillery crew members in a compartment behind the engine.
A 203mm gun is mounted openly at the chassis’s rear.
Firing range: 37.5 km (high-explosive fragmentation shell), 47.5 km (rocket-assisted projectile).
Rate of fire: 1.5 rounds per minute.
In September 2017, the Barrikady plant’s assets, responsible for gun production, were put up for auction. Barrel production has ceased and is not expected to resume. Existing units will likely become inoperable once barrel life is exhausted.
Having lost expertise in large calibre artillery development and production, Russia is attempting to compensate by procuring North Korean "Juche" guns (주체포), known in the West as "Koksan."
