Citat:US Army to open a competitive tender to find its next 155mm Self-Propelled Gun now that ERCA has been cancelled.
This follows an international roadshow in which US Army delegations visited Rheinmetall, BAE Systems, Hanwha, General Dynamics and Elbit Systems to evaluate their offerings.
Phase-I of this program is to kick off in February with the Army asking for proposals from industry along with a round of testing of these off-the-shelf offerings.
After this, an unspecified number of companies will receive Phase-I contracts, which will be awarded in the July to September timeframe. Companies awarded these will then participate in additional “competitive evaluation testing” through FY2026.
Phase-II starts in FY2027 and will downselect the Phase-I offerings to those the Army wants to continue evaluating for eventual fielding, which is planned for 2030.
This means that it is possible that the Army ends up selecting more than one industry offering for adoption to better align with the units they are supposed to be fielded by.
