The aircraft, an Airbus A330-200 undergoing conversion as Multi-Role Tanker Transport (MRTT), took off on 26 March at 19.15 local time (CET) from Airbus’ Getafe site near Madrid (Spain) reaching the Airbus site in Tianjin (China) on 27 March. The aircraft, operated by an Airbus crew, returned to Spain on 28 March at 04.05 local time (CET) with a cargo of more than 4 million face masks.

Airbus DS demonstrates automatic aerial refuelling for A330 MRTT
Citat:Airbus Defence and Space (DS) announced the first ever automatic air-to-air refuelling (A3R) operation for an aircraft fitted with a boom system on 17 April.

The event saw a company-owned A330-200 Multi-Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) aircraft connect with a Portuguese Air Force Lockheed Martin F-16 Fighting Falcon receiver using the Airbus automatic air-to-air refuelling (A3R) solution.

Testing itself took place earlier this year over the Atlantic Ocean, with 45 flight test hours and 120 dry contacts with the A3R system made. The entire aerial refuelling envelope was covered, and certification is slated to commence in 2021.

Delivery of first two A330 MRTTs for NATO to proceed next month
Citat:NATO’s Multinational MRTT Fleet (MMF) will take delivery of its first two A330 MRTT aircraft next month. The handover is at the Main Operating Base in Eindhoven.
The third and fourth aircraft are currently under conversion at the Airbus Defence facilities in Getafe, Madrid. The fifth A330 was flown from Toulouse to Getafe earlier this month.
Six countries have signed up for the program to operate 8 aircraft. The contract includes options for 3 more tankers.
