Do sada postoje svega 2 A-50U ? Bort-ovi 33 i 47 crveni .
Jos neke pojedinosti u vezi radara Shmelj
OKB: NPO Vega (NII-17)
Chief Designers: Vladimir Ivanov (system), V Pogreshayev (radar), O Rezepov (computer)
Citat:Shmel was designed in the mid-to-late seventies, when it became clear that a replacement for the Tu-126 and its Liana radar was necessary. Initially, it was conceived as an update to Liana, and was intended for retrofit to the Tu-126. However, the weight and bulk of the radar and its associated equipment spiralled upwards, and soon it became clear that a new carrier was needed. Beriev's A-50 proposal of an Il-76 conversion was ordered, along with the Schmel radar system.
Shmel works in frequencies from 2 to 4 GHz, minimum peak power output is 1MW, and it is frequency agile from low PRF to high PRF. The transmitter is mounted at the rear and lead shielded for protection of the crew.
Primary flat plate antenna is integrated with an IFF interrogator and datalink antennas in a 9m diameter disc radome . Standard rotation is 6 turns/min. It is mechanically scanned in azimuth, electronically scanned in elevation up to 20°.
It is a 3D radar, giving target elevation information. It has passive direction finding capability, IFF interrogate function, and fighter control via digital datalink. It was also plagued by reliability and overload problems with its digital computers, which limited the number of targets that could be simultaneously tracked to 50-60 and also limited range to about 150km. Can control 10 intercepts via digital datalink.
Shmel-M was designed for the A-50U updated version. Increased ECM resistance, with further improvements to range and number of targets tracked raised to 200-300.

Citat:The Beriev A-50 (NATO reporting name "Mainstay") is a Russian airborne warning and control system (AWACS) aircraft based on the Ilyushin Il-76 transport. Developed to replace the Tupolev Tu-126 "Moss", the A-50 first flew in 1978. It entered service in 1984, with about 40 produced by 1992.
The A-50 can control up to 40 fighter aircraft for either air-to-air intercept or air-to-ground attack missions. The A-50 is capable of flying for 4 hours at 1000 km from its base at a maximum takeoff weight of 190 tons. The aircraft can be refuelled by Il-78 tankers, although some sources indicate flight tests showed that aerial refueling was all but impossible because the rotodome would hit turbulence from the tanker, causing severe buffeting.
The radar "Vega-M" is designed by MNIIP, Moscow, and produced by NPO Vega. The "Vega-M" is capable of tracking up to 300 targets simultaneously within 230 kilometers. Large targets, like surface ships, can be tracked at a distance of 400 km. Range of detection of air targets: not strategic ballistic missiles: 800 km (optical means), bombers: to 650 km, fighters: 300 km, cruise missiles: 215 km.

Iracki Adnan-1 u pratnji 29-ki

Самолёт ДРЛО ВВС Ирака «Adnan 2», созданный на основе Ил-76МД. В ВВС Ирана носил название «Simorgh»

Citat:Sadam Hussein and his generals knew that the USA were unlikely to ever sell him a workable AWACS, so instead he directed various Iraqi engineers to create their own using the Il-76 Candid airframe. The first version, known as the Baghdad 1, featured a French Thompson –CSF Tiger-G radar, built under licence in Iraq as the Salahuddin G, which was the mounted right at the rear of the fuselage below the tail. This was supported by a Rockwell-Collins IFF pod slung underneath, together with various electronic equipment from Selenia in Italy and Marconi in England. Thompson acted as the systems intergrator as well as building the fibreglass and composite radome that replaced the aircraft’s belly doors. However, although the Tiger-G was a sophisticated 2-D radar, it was designed to operate from the ground and nobody ever imagined anyone would seriously consider hanging the radar upside down inside the back of an IL-76 and try to use it as an AWACS system. A French engineer who saw the system commented, “ I don’t believe in it for an instant. The Tiger-G gives out so much heat when it turns, the people manning it in the back of the plane are going to fry after half and hour”. Unsurprisingly, the Baghdad 1 proved to be a complete failure. During Gulf War 1 the Baghdad 1 was flown out to Iran and was seen in 2003 on the ramp at Tehran-Mehrabad air base. Three other Iraq IL-76 aircraft were given the Adnan conversion, consisting of a more conventional rotodome above the fuselage, but this system was also a failure. Although one of the Adnan aircraft was destroyed on the ground at Al Taqaddum airfield on 23 Jan 91 during Gulf War 1, the two other aircraft managed to take refuge in Iran where they are believed to remain in storage at Shiraz air base.

U Iranu 2009 imao udes
Citat:The 2009 Iranian Air Force Ilyushin IL-76MD accident of 22 September 2009 resulted in the destruction of Iran's only functional Airborne early warning and control (AWACS) aircraft, an Ilyushin Il-76MD. Sources conflict on the cause of the loss, with some stating that there was a mid-air collision with an Iranian Air Force Northrop F-5E Tiger II or a HESA Saeqeh, and others stating that the rotodome detached from the aircraft, striking and removing the tailplane while the aircraft was manoeuvreing for an emergency landing following an engine fire.
Citat:The aircraft involved was an Ilyushin Il-76MD, a Soviet-built transport aircraft, later converted to an AWACS system for the Iraqi Air Force called the Adnan-2 class AWACS. It had been flown from Iraq to Iran in 1991 during the First Gulf War, given serial number 5-8209 and renamed from "Baghdad" to "Simorgh" (a flying creature of Iranian fable which performs wonders in mid-flight).[2] After arrival in Iran, Russian technicians had reportedly upgraded the aircraft and installed a newer Iranian-made radar, which could trace flying objects within a 1,000 kilometres (540 nmi) range. The aircraft came into service in April 2008 and was the only AWACS-equipped Iranian aircraft.
