Colombia uses the Wipak system to drop Paveway-II bombs from its A-37B

Citat: The Fuerza Aérea Colombiana (FAC, Colombian Air Force) used the Raytheon WiPAK system for the drop of the GBU-12 Paveway-II bombs from its (O)A-37B Dragones, in a recent successful bombing operation against the dissidents of the FARC-EP in the south of the country.

For the operation, the FAC deployed three A-37Bs and six GBU-12 Paveway-II (two per aircraft). During the mission two of these bombs were delivered from two (O)A-37Bs.

The novelty in the delivery of the Paveway was the use of the Wipak (Wireless Paveway Avionics Kit) system, designed to deliver information to the GBU, characterized by using an inertial / GPS guidance system and using wireless communication. This allows to update coordinates through a tablet, from which data is sent (by Bluetooth) thanks to a radio transmitter located in the cabin of the A-37B, to a receiver in the bomb.

On 5 December 2021, the Fuerza Aérea de Guatemala (FAG, Guatemalan Air Force) celebrated its 100th anniversary.
With Guatemala having retired its last A-37 Dragonfly about a decade ago, the presence of the Salvadoran aircraft was most welcome. However, FAG mechanics managed to get one of Guatemala’s own stored A-37Bs, with serial A-448, to taxi under its own power, just in time for the air show!

Urugvajci traze zamenu za svoje Pucara i A-37

Over the past few years, Uruguay has been seeking a new combat aircraft to replace its retired Pucara’s and its aging A-37 Dragonfly’s.
Both the Pucara and the A-37 are both from the mid 70s and early 80s, meaning much of the force is coming up on 50-40 years old.

This age issue caused the retirement of the FAU’s Pucara COIN aircraft in 2017 due to airframe age and lack of new spare parts.
A-37 has also suffered issues, with the Dragonfly being unable to deploy to Salitre 2022 due to aircraft availability being so low that they would not have enough aircraft to defend the nation.

The A-37 recently has been tested in air refueling in FAU service .
