We were lucky enough to speak to pilots who have flown jets equipped with thrust vectoring nozzles (TVC) to get their opinion of the J-10B flight demonstration at Zhuhai airshow.
It was clear that the nozzle did vector downwards but only for a small degree. The minute deflection was enough to generate the lift necessary to keep the nose up during the pass. The angle of attack was between 20-30°. Even during the cobra maneuver, not much deflection of the nozzle is necessary to execute the classic move.

The J-10B TVC demonstrator finally made full use of its thrusting vectoring nozzle during the opening display at Zhuhai airshow 2018
The aircraft climbed after takeoff to perform a TVC loop. Returning back to show center, it did a spin roll.
It then return to show center to climb and execute a loop tumble yaw maneuver. Some mistaken this as falling leaf maneuver.
The pilot then executed the first cobra followed by a J-turn at high altitude.
The last maneuver was another cobra done at a lower altitude. Compared to the Russians, the Chinese version of the cobra was less than a second shorter as the pilot quickly pushed the nose down for recovery.
Foreign pilots who have performed the cobra at airshows praised the flying display sequence of the J-10B TVC after watching online videos of its display.
The aircraft also demonstrated its full use of the TVC in all three axis.

Eto ta slika je upravo prikaz o kojem sam pričao. Hvala što si se potrudio pokazati je. Dakle mlaznica se ne okreće cijela nego se jedan (veći dio) mlaznice samo širi ili skuplja, i to nejednako. Npr jedan dio latica mlaznice ostaje raširen dok se dio latica nasuprot njemu skupi. A završni dio mlaznice ima pomične latice koje se onda još dodano pomiču i lijevo i desno, po potrebi. Sve to omogućava unutarnjim laticama (koje su otprilike dužine kao i vanjske latice) da se odista orijentiraju u svim potrebnim smjerovima. Uglavnom, možda je moguće da vektor potiska nije baš jednako izražen kao u nekim drugim motorima/avionima, ali se ovo svakako čini kao jedno elegantno i moguće ne pretjerano teško (po masi) rješenje.
