A key area will be computing power and the avionics as new software architecture will have to be adopted. “We need to improve the software architecture into a more easily handled software configuration. We also need to be ready to adopt different missions.

“The UK, thorough Project Centurion, did a good job of transferring their Tornado missions onto the aircraft. Now we need to be prepared for the same thing in Germany because the next big opportunity will be the Tornado replacement contract. We need to be able to transfer Tornado missions onto the Eurofighter, which means additional weapons and additional capability.

In Germany we will also demonstrate that we can even further improve the excellent flight performance and stability of the aircraft to carry different weapons. This is called the Aerodynamic Modification Kit [AMK]. It’s about generating even higher longitudinal stability of the aircraft’s aerodynamics to new potential weapon integration.

The improvements in the already formidable agility of the Typhoon has been surprising: the LERX delays the loss of lateral stability during maneuvers at high angle of attack, and the tests showed that, in a standard AA weapons configuration with 4 BVRAAM missiles and two SRAAM, the DA5 with LERX gains a good 10% more turning rate than normal Typhoons. It is unclear if this modification can be financed and fitted at least to the Tranche 3A Typhoons.

German Eurofighters can now launch their Meteor air-to-air missiles
Citat:The German Air Force’s fleet of Eurofighter jets is now capable of launching the Meteor beyond visual range air-to-air missiles (BVRAAM) thanks to a new software update, the service announced on April 16.
According to the air force, the Eurofighters were recently upgraded with the P2Eb software, which is a collective badge for the integration of the Meteor and Storm Shadow weapons, as well as a series of other changes which have been dubbed “enhancement package 2.”
Taktisches Luftwaffengeschwader 74 (74th Tactical Air Force Wing), based at Neuburg Air Base in Bavaria, was the first to receive the upgrade.

New protective EW system for GAF Typhoon
Citat:Leonardo, on behalf of the EuroDASS Consortium, has signed a contract to supply the Praetorian Defensive Aids Sub-System (DASS) for the new Eurofighter Typhoons being supplied under the Quadriga programme. This will see 38 of the latest standard Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft delivered to the Luftwaffe (GAF, German Air Force) to replace their Tranche 1 Typhoons.
The Typhoon’s Praetorian DASS equips the aircraft with advanced protection from threats including Infra-Red (IR or heat-seeking) and radar-guided missiles. The system has been battle-tested on peace-keeping operations in Libya and Syria. It integrates sensors and electronic warfare jamming to provide situational awareness, platform protection and advanced electronic deception.
