German P-3s Costlier Than Expected: Report
Citat:BONN, Germany - The German Navy's eight new Lockheed P-3C Orion maritime patrol aircraft are operationally limited and may cost the military more than 400 million euros ($579 million) more than expected over their service lives, a government report said.
In an April 12 addendum to its 2010 report, the German Federal Audit Court criticized the 2006 decision to buy the 20-year-old Orions from the Netherlands.
The planes were discovered to be in worse technical condition than expected, and the cost of various repairs and upgrades may cost more than 800 million euros, not the budgeted 388 million. Even after the repairs, the planes will lack the weapons to fulfill all of their tasks, the court found.

Pakistan’s P-3 Orion Maritime Aircraft - and their Harpoons

Pakistan will reportedly ask the USA to replace the 2 lost aircraft, but after discovering Osama Bin Laden sheltered in Pakistan, and listening to Pakistan take huge steps toward becoming a Chinese client, the mood in America isn’t exactly receptive. To that, add 2 more significant concerns, created by the attack itself.
One is that Pakistani officials add that 11 Chinese engineers were at the base, and escaped unharmed. It isn’t clear what they were doing there, and their proximity to modernized American sea control aircraft could well become another friction point between the USA and Pakistan.

Novi Norveski P-3MLU
Citat:The first rewinged P-3 Orion maritime patrol aircraft for the Royal Norwegian Air Force was delivered in ceremonies at the IMP Group Ltd., Aerospace Division facilities in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, on 14 July 2011. The replacement wings are part of the P-3 Mid-Life Update, or MLU, program, which includes replacement of the aircraft’s center wing lower surface and horizontal stabilizer. All of the components are made from new alloys that provide a five-fold increase in corrosion resistance. IMP will be refitting Norway’s fleet of two P-3N and four P-3C aircraft with the MLU kits over the next several years. The replacement wings are assembled at the Lockheed Martin facility in Marietta, Georgia, and are shipped to IMP for installation.
