Captain Kemal Ahmed Mansur with his MIG-21
Citat:The Israeli plane was hit by a rocket due to the proximity of water, navigational officer and pilot were killed by smashing it on the surface, having prematurely ejection.
He and his wing man Hassan Lotfi entered In the battle knowing that they are entering in a prepared Israeli air ambush fully aware of consequence of outcome, but they judge there is still a chance that could attack and it is need to be very fast and accurate.
Kemal said that it was not a suicide mission that Israel is characterized as such but three-year sequence of high trainings under the guidance of the selected Soviet instructort which is due to the difficulty many young Egyptians pilots died.
They flew from airport Beni Suef guided from the ground, but they had strict orders to stay away from entering the conflict. Flying low over the ground they hide from their own radars, listening in the silence of the communication and navigating to the positions of the six Israeli Phantoms.
Then Kemal Ahmed Mansouri decided to attack the Fantome even if it meant the outbreak of war. Taking advantage of the confusion due to poor radar coverage, terrain and confusion in communications with the troops in the field two Egyptian fighters stalked the Israeli at full speed, quickly consuming fuel. Meanwhile another pair of MIG-21 fighters also were took off from airport Ben Suef to circle above in case they need to take into battle as support.
Mansouri ordered his wing-man to transfer to missiles under the full throtle and stream to the group of enemies aircraft's. When Israeli pilots saw two Wgyptian MiGs on their radars thought to have an easy prey, but they were wrong.
With a distance of one kilometer Mansuri launched two missiles at the Phantoms, who served as a lure to others who were at greater altitude and trying to enter Egyptians in the tail.
The first missile missed but the second one hits the phantom of the right wing, when Mansouri was in aprox the 200 feet directly above it and he saw the debris of Israeli fighter who crashes in the water surface.
Knowing that others will go after them, he make maneuver which brings his plane face to face with four Phantom breaking their formation. As soon as the fight began, Mansouri (code name Jaguar leader), screaming for help : "I am in the fight jammed with five Israeli phantom ... I need help." The nearest Egyptian planes were on a 150 km distance, during which time the two bold Egyptian pilots in a series of extraordinary maneuvers avoided the whole cannonade of Phantom bursts of cannon, and arsenal of missiles hung under the Phantoms wings.
Mansouri said that they survived of Israeli just because of good practices which are trained for many months. Performing complex anti-missile maneuvers for thirteen minutes of dogfight, they both realize that they will not have the fuel to return to any airport and that their death or at best case pull out inevitable. The Israelis also realizes that they will find themselves out of fuel and in fear of the expected Egyptian help they call off the pursuit. With less than 100l of fuel Mansouri started to look for a place to land on some of the roads that were still in Israeli hands near to Channel.
They did not want to leave the aircraft even though they knew that after the expiration of the engine, the MiG-21 became unmanageble. They wanted to air victory to be complete. Mansouri reported to Command where they are landing and to send a helicopter to pick them up.
Mansuri moves to be first to land, and over the road motor shuts down due to lack of fuel. He manages to touch the asphalt, brake pressure and after a short draging he stick up in the sand beside the road, but without consequences for him and the plane.
Hasan goes to the landing just behind him but because of poor assessment of the approach he reach a point of sand, and start turning around what caused the explosion and death of the pilot.
Captain Kemal Ahmed Mansur for his venture was awarded the Medal for Bravery and the Military Order of the Star. Kemal continued to fly and fight in the war Yom Kipur.
