Boeing hits back on F-15C retirement proposal
Citat:The U.S. Air Force is contemplating a controversial proposal to retire its fleet of air superiority F-15C/D Eagles sometime after 2020, but manufacturer Boeing says the service has already put the jets on a path that will keep them in service and relevant into the 2030s.
By replacing the aircraft’s longerons — the thin strips of material that make up the skeleton of an aircraft — the Air Force can extend the life of the F-15C/D past 2030 for about $1 million per aircraft, Boeing’s vice president of F-15 programs, Steve Parker, said during an April 17 interview.

F-15 program to upgrade world's fastest mission computer
Citat:Boeing recently received a $434.8 million contract to upgrade F-15C and F-15E aircraft with Suite 9, a series of new hardware and software releases that will power advanced capabilities for the fighters.
Suite 9 is the first software release to add capability to the new Advanced Display Core Processor II computer. Program officials say it’s the world’s fastest flight mission computer and capable of processing up to 87 billion instructions throughput per second.

Izraelski bastard, spoj prednjeg dela unistenog aviona i zadnjeg dela aviona sa groblja.
Citat:The back half was ruined in a flight, but the front half was still good. Undeterred, the Israeli techs merely sutured the good half to the good half of another plane, to create this freak.
The project began in 2011 after a flock of pelicans flew straight into one of the aircraft’s engines, which sparked a fire and forced an emergency landing, according to Defense News. The entire rear half of the fighter jet was ruined, but the front part still seemed to work just fine. So what to do with a piece of nearly totaled junk?
After three years, the Israeli Air Force’s Depot 22 had an idea: a hybrid of sorts, matching the front of the aircraft—called Arrowhead—to the back-end of a F-15 that hasn’t been used for years and was sitting in a boneyard. Ingenious, really. The depot tried reaching out to Boeing to see if it was possible, reports Defense News, but it never heard back:
Depot 22 managed to get the thing flying again, though they didn’t quite say exactly how this monster handles.
