Citat:On 6 November 2018, the first of three “new” F/A-18B Hornets arrived at NASA’s Armstrong Flight Research Center (Edwards AFB, CA).
The McDonnell Douglas F/A-18B-11-MC Hornet, with BuNo 161938 and construction number 143/B034, is a former VX-23 aircraft (known as SD-322) from NAS Patuxent River (MD). All unit markings, tail code and modex were already removed when it arrived at Armstrong.

The US Navy and USMC together field 617 F/A-18 Hornets, comprising 95 F/A-18A, 21 F/A-18B, 370 F/A-18C, and 131 F/A-18D aircraft. These aircraft were built to last up to 6,000 flight hours, although many have already achieved 8,000 hours through a variety of sustainment efforts and continue to have sufficient operational availability.

Navy to conduct final flight of the “legacy” Hornet
