Citat:
The Air Force has spent around $1.8 billion to develop the new aircraft since 2012. Earlier this year the service estimated the bomber would cost $58 billion over a decade to develop, up from a mistaken previous estimate of $33 billion. The Air Force ultimately said the correct figure for the 10-year cost is closer to $42 billion.
Randall Walden, director of the Air Force Rapid Capabilities Office, told lawmakers that he was "very confident" the program office could give them accurate cost estimates, despite the previous error, noting that the projections were relatively stable at $41.4 billion in 2015 and $41.7 billion in 2016.

Tanker Fiasco Again? Boeing-Lockheed Protest Northrop’s LRSB Win
[Link mogu videti samo ulogovani korisnici]
Citat:An op-ed we ran last week by Robert Haffa — a consultant who used to work for Northrop and retains close business ties to the company — offers what may be a preview of Northrop’s defense. Haffa notes that Northrop Grumman “has advanced the state of the art in all- aspect stealth aircraft from modernizing the B-2, developing the stealthy X-47B unmanned aircraft (a candidate to help solve the U.S. Navy’s long-range strike dilemma),and working other programs.”
Northrop Grumman je jak igrač u avioindustriji....
Citat:Between them, Boeing and Lockheed delivered more than 300 military aircraft last year, Thompson noted. Northrop Grumman delivered nine, all either drones or turboprops rather than jets. True, Northrop built the nation’s only stealth bomber, the B-2, but since those glorious and expensive days, it’s evolved into a maker of drones and of advanced sensors and other components for other companies’ planes. “Northrop is basically out of the manned aircraft business,” Thompson said. “Acting as if these two offerors are equal… is kind of crazy.”

Citat:
In last year’s budget request, the Air Force included about $12.6 billion in its research, development, technology and evaluation account for the next-generation bomber from FY17 through FY20, according to official budget documents. But for the same time period, the service’s FY17 funding profile for LRS-B is about $9.1 billion – a significant drop of about $3.5 billion.
Budget observers took to Twitter Tuesday after the initial budget rollout to lambaste the Air Force for cutting resources for the bomber. However, the reduction simply reflects the service’s updated cost estimate for the program since awarding a contract to Northrop Grumman Oct. 27, Air Force deputy for budget Carolyn Gleason told reporters Tuesday at the Pentagon.

Citat:
The precise cost to develop and build the new aircraft is, like so many details of the secretive LRS-B programme, classified. The USAF has stated only that cost to build the first 21 aircraft is in line with a long-term objective to deliver 100 aircraft at an estimated cost of $511 million each, based on the value of the dollar in 2010.
The USAF’s Fiscal 2017 budget request submitted on 9 February shows that funding for LRS-B declined by $2.8 billion compared to the previous year’s budget proposal. But the USAF insists the programme is not being curtailed or slowed. Instead, the USAF sharpened its cost estimate for the programme based on the specific terms of Northrop’s bid.
