Potpisan ugovor za proizvodnju IRST za nove Gripene.
Citat:Saab has awarded Selex ES a production contract for the Skyward-G infrared search and track (IRST) system, with the deal covering equipment to be installed on the Swedish air force’s future Gripen E fleet.
Selex on 14 April announced that it has been contracted to produce 60 Skyward-G systems for the Swedish fighter, with the work to be performed at its Nerviano site near Milan, Italy.

Embraer and Saab discuss exporting Brazilian fighters from 2023
Citat:Brazilian planemaker Embraer SA and Swedish partner Saab AB hope to devise a plan by June for exporting the Gripen fighter jet from the South American country beginning in 2023, a senior Embraer official said on Tuesday.
Jackson Schneider, the head of Embraer's defense unit, said deliveries of 36 Gripen NG single-engine jets to the Brazilian Air Force from a joint assembly plant in the country would begin in 2018. It could wrap up as early as 2023, opening up export capacity.

Citat:Disclosed by company officials on 27 April, the Mk4 modification involves the replacement of two line-replaceable units in the back section of the mechanically-scanned radar. This provides a new exciter/receiver module with digital waveform generation and a new radar processing unit, along with updated software.
As a result of these updates, the PS-05/A Mk4 gains a claimed increase in detection range of at least 100%, and this is expected to rise to 150% for a high-altitude air-to-air engagement scenario by 2017, Saab says. Such a boost will enable the Gripen to capitalise on the full firing envelope for the Raytheon AIM-120 AMRAAM and MBDA Meteor air-to-air missiles.
The enhancement also offers an increased capability to detect helicopters and targets with a low radar cross section, as well as improved air-to-ground performance.
Saab says the self-funded development has already been flight-tested, during campaigns conducted in December 2014 and last month. The adaptation – which retains the PS-05/A’s existing front-end hardware – makes use of commercial off-the-shelf equipment, and systems developed in support of some of its other radar programmes.
“The aircraft modifications needed have been kept to the absolute minimum, and you can switch between Mk3 and 4 hardware configurations easily within the aircraft,” says Jan Qvillberg, head of the company’s fighter radar and datalinks product area.

Saab pitches Gripen as Typhoon replacement for Austria
Citat:Saab is touting its Gripen combat aircraft to Austria as a possible replacement for that country's early model Eurofighter Typhoons, a senior company official disclosed on 27 April.
Speaking at the Linköping production facility in Sweden, the head of Saab's Aeronautics division, Ulf Nilsson, said that, while there is currently no active competition in Austria, he anticipates a requirement to replace the air force's 15 Tranche 1 Typhoons in the next few years.
