Potpisali su sporazum sa Japanom o zajednickom razvoju motora za buduce lovce

Citat:The UK and Japan have announced plans to jointly develop a future fighter aircraft engine demonstrator, with the shared intention to explore further technologies in the future

Citat:The U.K. Ministry of Defense (MOD) today announced details of the agreement, a Memorandum of Cooperation, within which the Anglo-Japanese fighter jet engine is the flagship item. Work on the joint engine demonstrator will begin early next year with the United Kingdom investing an initial £30 million in “planning, digital designs, and innovative manufacturing developments.”

Beyond that, the MOD says that another £200 million, or around $266.6 million at the present rate of conversion, of funding from the United Kingdom will lead to the development of a full-scale demonstrator power system, which will apparently be built at Rolls-Royce’s Filton facility in Bristol, England. In addition, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries (IHI) in Japan, and BAE Systems in the United Kingdom will be involved.

No details of expected performance have been released and at this stage, it’s unclear if the so-called demonstrator engine will be installed in a flying testbed or if it will be used exclusively for ground-based static trials. It’s also unconfirmed at this stage whether the Tempest and F-X — if they both progress as planned — will be powered by a common engine. Both designs are planned as twin-engine fighters.

Farnborough 2022: UK launches Tempest flight demonstrator effort

Citat:“There will be a supersonic manned flying demonstrator in the next five years,” Richard Berthon, director of FCAS at the MoD, said, with industry officials noting that the digital design models for the Tempest have flown “hundreds of hours” in the virtual environment, paving the way for the demonstrator to validate the data so far collected.

Citat:The main thing that we are aiming for is to build a common jet, that may have small differences in design for each country,” said another of the sources.
Japan’s partnership with Britain is a chance for BAE and other European Tempest companies, such as Citat:Rolls-Royce, missile maker MBDA and Italian defence group Leonardo to tap a growing market long-dominated by U.S. companies.

Citat:Joint development of a next-generation fighter jet for Japan and the United Kingdom will likely involve a common airframe, The Yomiuri Shimbun has learned.

Arrangements to integrate the development plans are in the final stages, according to sources.

The two governments have made the decision after concluding that jointly developing a common airframe could reduce costs because the performance requirements for both the Air Self-Defense Force and the Royal Air Force are almost identical, according to several government sources.

The Japanese government will include the related costs in the budget request for the fiscal year starting April 2023 and decide on the development overview by the end of this year.

Ministry of Defence awards £650m to firms working on Tempest fighter jet

The companies who will receive the money are led by manufacturer BAE Systems, jet engine maker Rolls-Royce, and the UK arms of Italy’s Leonardo and European missile-maker MBDA.
The UK confirmed last December that it would work with Italy and Japan on the project, when the latter formally joined the programme after protracted negotiations.

The new contract represents the largest slice so far formally assigned of the £2bn to which the UK government has already committed. About £1bn has been spent so far, although the final project is likely to cost tens of billions of pounds between the three partner countries. There are already more than 2,800 people working at the UK partners on Tempest.

Čudi me da se ne spominje IHI. Oni su bili razvijali XF5 i XF9, navodno su bili dobri motori. Barem kao neki podizvođač.
