The Rostec State Corporation's Ruselectronics holding company has developed a system for supporting aircraft landings on the decks of aircraft carriers and aircraft-carrying cruisers. The equipment will reduce the wear of arrester cables and increase pilot safety during landing.
The system is being developed by the Television Research Institute, which is part of Ruselectronics. The new system measures the speed of the aircraft after touching the deck and, in accordance with the data received, allows the degree of tension of the arrester cable, a mechanism for braking aircraft, to be adjusted. This will increase the cable's resistance to abrasion and also reduce the pilot's overload during landing by approximately 30%.
The equipment can be used on existing and under-construction Russian heavy aircraft-carrying cruisers, as well as the Indian aircraft carriers Vikramaditya and Vikrant.
"Landing on the deck occurs with an overload of more than 4g. The equipment and the pilot experience a very strong impact, with the maximum forces on the cable and the impact on the pilot occurring at 2-3 seconds of braking. Thanks to the control of the arresting gear, the new complex will reduce the impact of negative factors, which will have a positive effect on the health of pilots and the service life of the equipment," said Alexey Nikitin, General Director of the Television Research Institute.
