Kaliňák said there is a significant difference between the original $340 million Viper offer and the current price of the helicopters, which exceeds €550 million ($582 million).

The AH-1Z Viper and UH-1Y Venom helicopters for the Czech Air Force will be delayed
Citat:In the summer of 2022, the United States decided to donate 6 older AH-1Z Viper and 2 UH-1Y Venom from Marine Corps surplus to Czechia. The helicopters are to be upgraded to match the newly purchased and already delivered Vipers and Venoms of the Czech Air Force, with Czechia paying CZK 3.7 billion (~$160 million) and the US CZK 6.7 billion (~$290 million) for the upgrade.

Initially, it was expected that these upgraded helicopters would arrive in Czechia by the end of 2023, with later estimates between 2025 and 2026. However, according to Lubor Koudelka, head of the armaments section of the Ministry of Defence, delivery is now estimated for the turn of 2027 and 2028. This is a significant delay in deliveries, which is justified by the alleged overcrowding of the American defense industry with orders and, according to the head of the US Defense and Security Cooperation Agency, it is unable to expedite deliveries.

Thus, Czechia will wait longer for 8 upgraded H-1 helicopters (roughly 5.5 years) than for 12 brand new H-1s (roughly 3.5 years), which were ordered in December 2019 and the first two helicopters arrived in Czechia in July 2023.
