Currently, 11 Rooivalks are in operational service with the SAAF, with 16 Squadron; a twelfth was written-off in an accident. Three prototypes were also built. The proposed roadmap would include both upgrading the existing helicopters and developing a new version. "It's probably one of the two best attack helicopters in the world," he emphasised. "It does not make sense for us not to pursue a roadmap for this system going forward." "It is a very credible attack helicopter. The Minister of Defence has been saying that we should nurture this, not only operationally but technologically." The existing aircraft are already quite old and need upgrading. The proposed Rooivalk Mark (Mk) 2 would effectively be a completely new attack helicopter, although it would be based on the existing machine, Saloojee explained.

16 Squadron honoured with Sword of Peace award

Citat:16 Squadron, based at AFB Bloemspruit and the SA Air Force’s (SAAF) only combat support rotary wing unit, has been awarded the Sword of Peace.
The award for exceptional achievements in the humanitarian field went to the Rooivalk squadron for its work in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Locally designed and built Rooivalk combat support helicopters are attached to the Force Intervention Brigade (FIB) attached to MONUSCO, the single largest United Nations mission currently deployed, and have been active in supporting troops on the ground protecting civilians from rebels and other armed insurgent groups.

Poljska,Nigerija i Egipat zainteresovane za Rooivalk Mk 2

Citat:Mike Kgobe, CEO of Denel Aviation, told defenceWeb that the demonstration was based on renewed interest expressed in the helicopter, especially following its performance with the United Nations in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He said February’s demonstration was aimed at talking to the broader community about the Rooivalk, with interested countries present at the demonstration, including delegations from Poland and Nigeria. Poland is currently seeking new attack helicopters under its Kruk programme while Nigeria has an urgent operational requirement for attack helicopters to combat Boko Haram militants.

Egypt is also believed to be potentially interested, especially after the United States delayed the delivery of AH-64 Apache helicopters following the military’s removal of Mohammed Morsi from power. Although Egypt recently ordered 46 Ka-52K helicopters from Russia, these are earmarked for its Mistral class vessels and the country still requires land-based attack helicopters.

ovo šta se sad događa u tim arapskim zemljama, meni nije više jasno 2%!

Pa svi imaju po 4 različna modela istog tipa naoružanja! Koji če ima vrag sad ovo, kad imaju Apacha i skoro Ka-52K i Mi-35? Neka onda nabave još Tigra, Mangustu i Kobru. I Turski Atak, kad je več ime drugo.

Ili se spremaju za napad na Izrael u narednih 10 godina ili je to čisto preseravanje.
