Citat:Fifty-two years ago today, on 9 July 1961, the single-engine V-8 helicopter – the prototype for the Mi-8/17 series – made its first flight. A twin-engine version, the V-8A, appeared a year later. It was the V-8A that established the modern configuration for Mi-8/17-series helicopters.
There are more versions of the Mi-8/17 than of any other helicopter. The Mi-8/17 series can claim to be the world’s most popular helicopter, with more than 12,000 machines produced.
Russian Helicopters today produces modern versions of the Mi-8/17 including the Mi-171(E), Mi-171A1, Mi-8AMT(Sh), Mi-8MTV and Mi-17V-5, and is also developing the latest version, the Mi-171A2, which will combine the latest technologies with all the renowned qualities of the Mi-8/17 series. It is planned to use the Mi-171A2 as the basis for all future versions of the Mi-8/17.
