The PREDICT project, launched in response to the 2005 H5N1 “bird flu” scare, gathered specimens from more than 10,000 bats and 2,000 other mammals in search of dangerous viruses. They detected about 1,200 viruses that could spread from wild animals to humans, signaling pandemic potential. More than 160 of them were novel coronaviruses, much like SARS-CoV-2.
They also took blood samples from people in rural China, and learned that, in living among wildlife, they had been exposed to coronaviruses — a clear sign that, if those viruses spread easily among humans, they could take off. That “raised the red flag,” said Mazet.

Изгледа да је то једини могући модел код, ајде да кажемо, "спорих" епидемија. "Брзе" болести, попут Еболе (велика смртност, кратка инкубација, брз развој болести), лакше се искорењују ако се реагује на време, драстичним мерама.

On behalf of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of Russian Armed Forces Vladimir Putin, Defence Minister, General of the Army Sergei Shoigu ordered to create the aviation group for operational delivery of Russian military specialists to support Serbia in the fight against coronavirus. The first Russian ASF Il-76 aircraft with military specialists and equipment have already taken off from the Chkalovsky military airdrome, Moscow region. The aircraft will deliver a forward team of military doctors, virology and epidemiology specialists with modern diagnosis and disinfection equipment to the Batajnica airdrome north-west of Belgrad. Currently, eight medical teams with modern medical equipment and property, as well as a team of CBR Defence Troops' specialist are concentrated and ready to depart to Serbia by IL-76 aircraft. The teams designed to carry out disinfection events with complexes of analysis of pathogenic materials, aerosol disinfection of vehicles, buildings and structures and the necessary supply of disinfectants. For the transfer of personnel and equipment, 11 aircraft flights have been scheduled. They will deliver to Serbia 87 servicemen, including military physicians, virologists of the CBR Defence Troops' squad, special medical, protective and 16 pieces of military equipment.
