When you're too poor to buy Tank and you want to support your infantry using naval gun on a tracked vehicle.

The Begleitpanzer 57 is an AIFSV (Armored Infantry Fire support vehicle) developed by a joint project between Thyssen-Henschel and Bofors as private venture project.

It used the Schützenpanzers Marder Infantry fighting vehicle chassis for its primary body. It's primary armament would be the Bofors 70-caliber 57mm gun; which was originally a primary armament developed by Bofors for surface combat vessel main armament (Frigates and destroyers at that time). It is mounted on a Low-profile turret with the gun exposed outside (Much like in a similar manner how the main armament is mounted on the american experimental Airborne Light Tank T92)

The main gun has a good elevation, and it can engage low flying aircraft as well as any ground target within its view. This gun would prove useful in infantry-supporting role, but when it faces a threat in form of armored vehicle (like tanks), the vehicle has second weapon; TOW SACLOS guided anti-tank missile to deal with tanks. Complimenting the armament in the vehicle would be Stabilized periscope sight (the gun isn't stabilized) Laser Rangefinder, Fire Control System, and Night-vision thermal sight to augment the armament's aiming system.

It was first introduced in 1977 for export sales. However no country was ever interested by this AIFSV, therefore the vehicle was cancelled from production.

Another "Large gun thin armored vehicle" concept based on the Marder Infantry fighting vehicle is the VTS-1

VTS-1, or its full name "Versuchsträger Scheitellafette 1", is an experimental fire support vehicle developed by Thyssen-Henschel firm after there was already a study initiated for a vehicle that will replace the Leopard 1 MBT in the future. The vehicle was made to test the vehicle's capability following the design of casemated twin-gun armored fighting vehicle VT-1-1 (105mm) and VT-1-2 (120mm). A Marder 1 IFV was selected, having its main turret removed, and replaced with L7A3 gun mounted on top.

The vehicle was used to test the turretless design concept as well as testing the capabilities of the Marder IFV chassis whether it is possible for this lightly-armored fighting vehicle's firepower can be augmented. The study and testing however was discontinued in 1978 with one surviving prototype displayed at Wehrtechnischen Studiensammlung in Koblenz. Information gained in the test was later used to develop the Begleitpanzer 57; an Armored fire support vehicle developed by Thyssen-Henschel and Bofors.

Mislim da je i poljski PL-01 imao Mardera za uzor osnovne konstrukcije. Iako poljaci tvrde da je to bio CV90.

An interesting thing about this tank is that Malaysia was supposed to be the first country to operate the TAM outside Argentina. 102 vehicles was ordered after Malaysian army signed the contracts in 1981; which includes the tank version, the IFV Version, and the ARV version.

PL-01 je samo demonstrator na sasiji CV-90 Zašto sam mišljenja da nemože CV90 i zašto je projekat stao. CV90 ima problem modularnosti i bezbednosti posade zbog niske visine monovolumena kada bi se ugradila turela i posada smestila u bezbednostnu kapsulu po uzoru na Armatu T-14. Zato sam skeptičan u vezi CV90. Najlakše je da kopiraju ili upotrebe trup i dovoljno jak hodni deo Mardera. Sumnjam da će da idu u potpuno samostalni razvoj od nule.
