Citat:US Army to integrate unmanned turret on iconic Abrams tank

The US Army will integrate an unmanned turret as well as an autoloader into the venerable M1 Abrams tank and "develop new Abrams mobility and power architecture for conversion to a Hybrid Electric Drive propulsion and power generation system." Congressman Tim Ryan has secured $65M for the upgrades for the prototypes.

It doesn't state the timeline or if this is a baseline for a protoype for the Abrams replacement coming after the 2023 review. If true for a hybrid-electric propulsion, then the only choice is the Achates (Cummins) 6-cylinder (1500 HP) opposed-piston 2-stroke engine for the power generation that the Army is currently funding.

The 3-cylinder prototype was tested 4 years ago on an F-150 and received an MPG rating of 37 on gas and 42 on diesel.
