China introduced the short-range FK-2000 self-propelled air defense system in the China Aerospace Science and Industry Exhibition Area, where a number of "star products" of China's full-air air defense system were unveiled in September 2021. The FK-2000 surface-to-air missile weapon system, which was exhibited for the first time, adopts an integrated design of missile and artillery and has high combat effectiveness. It is an all-weather short-range terminal air defense weapon system.
The new FK-2000 self-propelled air defense system was created to operate at a short distance from 1.2 up to 25 km with a target destruction height - from 15 meters to 12 km. In its design, it is similar to that of the Russian Pantsir-S air defense system "with Chinese Characteristics Under Modern Conditions", which is capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 10 km. The development of the air defense missile system is carried out by the Chinese corporation of aerodynamic science and industry CASIC.
The self-propelled unit has on board a launcher, a radar station and an unmanned tower with a search radar. It is also possible to install an optical-electronic infrared sight on the top of the tower to provide a backup means for fire control. For air-to-surface missiles or cruise missiles, the range is within 1.2-10 km, with a hitting height of 15 m to 8 km. To destroy targets, the vehicle is equipped with 12 launch containers and two cannons. They can fire independently of each other. Note that the Russian "Pantsir-S" is capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 20 km at an altitude of up to 15 km.
The biggest highlight and advantage of FK-2000 is that the vehicle can fire at a speed of 40 kilometers per hour, including launching missiles. In the past, the on-the-go shooting of the air defense system can be divided into two types: one is that the vehicle moves normally, but it will make a short stop when the fire is opened, so as to facilitate the radar to lock and guide. This is mostly used in missile-type air defense systems, the most typical of which is the early Tor system.
The other is the common mobile shooting, which is mostly used for machine guns, but the moving speed is not very fast, and there is usually a dedicated combat cruising speed. Later, with the progress of the times, missiles can also be fired at combat cruising speed (Tunguska), but in general, the travel speed of air defense systems is not very fast. However, the FK-2000 can fire at a speed of up to 40 kilometers, which is already a general cross-country combat speed.
