If it's anything like the Vintorez the idea is a small, compact, suppressed weapon intended to defeat body armour (kill sentries etc.). Think "sniper rifle" but without the intention of shooting it 1200 yards. As you mentioned, also a perfect application for police units. Russian special police are incredibly busy since they have federal militarized police ---- in constant operations against Islamists in Georgia/Dagestan/Ossetia/Chechnya etc.

Izgledaju zanimljivo... na nekima se vidi početak gasnog cilindra, a na nekima ga obloga u potpunosti prekriva. Takođe, okvir na posednjoj (naslovnica) kao da je dodat fotošopom.

Kalashnikov Group presents its first prototype of the new semi-automatic sniper rifle SVK during the Army-2016 Expo.
Citat:The SVK compact semi-automatic sniper rifle is being developed for two of the most common military rifle cartridges, the 7.62x51 NATO and 7.62x54R.
The SVK rifle features an inverted “U”-shaped steel receiver which hosts the bolt group. It uses a short stroke piston gas operated action and rotary bolt locking with three radial lugs. The manually adjustable gas regulator ensures smooth and reliable operation under all conditions, with and without sound suppressor. The rifle is fed from detachable box magazines with standard (10 rounds) or high (15 and 20 rounds) capacities. The 7.62x54R version, utilizes magazines compatible with the Dragunov SVD sniper rifle.
The rifle also features ambidextrous fire controls and an integrated Picatinny rail on the top, so it can be easily equipped with a wide selection of modern day and night sights. Its side-folding buttstock is adjustable. Standard accessories include a detachable folding bipod and quick-detachable tactical sound suppressor. At the present moment, SVK is undergoing factory trials.
