Indian Army receives first 10,000 SIG Sauer assault rifles Citat:The Indian Army (IA) has received the first 10,000 of 72,400 SIG Sauer assault rifles it ordered in February.
Officials told Jane's on 16 December that the SIG716 7.62 mm rifles, which are being acquired for INR6.38 billion (USD90 million), will be issued to frontline infantry units deployed along India's disputed border with Pakistan as well as on counter-insurgency (COIN) missions.
Delivery of the remaining 62,400 rifles is expected to be completed by early 2020, said the officials.
