Limited Korean Export Credit Support Could Impede Major Defense Deals with Poland
Citat:As markets are opening up for large-scale export deals, such as defense and nuclear power plants, concerns are growing that limited financial support from Korean export credit agencies (ECAs) could potentially hinder timely assistance to companies.
According to sources, Tuesday, Poland reportedly requested more than 20 trillion won ($15.6 billion) in financial support from Korea for the terms of their second defense contract.
Countries ordering large-scale projects often request financial loans to cover insufficient funds, which makes the scale of financial support key to the finalization of contracts. However, due to the limited support capacity of Korean ECAs, this year's negotiations are encountering difficulties.
The legal capital of the Export-Import Bank of Korea (Eximbank), one of the country's leading ECAs, has remained unchanged at 15 trillion won for nine years. The bank structures its lending and investment based on its capital size. The larger the capital, the more funds they can offer. Eximbank has already utilized 14.8 trillion won, representing 98.5 percent of its legal capital, with a surge in both the volume and price of exports following the pandemic.
The Korea Trade Insurance Corp., another ECA, is also struggling with the same issue. Last year, the corporation provided trade insurance exceeding its 230 trillion won limit for the first time since its establishment.

Citat:The HOMAR-K, Polish version of Hanwha's K-239 Chunmoo MRLS, successfully completed its mobility tests at a state-run proving ground in Changwon, southern industrial city of South Korea, late July.
The HOMAR-K will be polonized with the integration of Polish chassis and major components, as the launch pod is mounted on an 8x8 chassis built by Polish manufacturer of Jelcz. WB Group’s TOPAZ battlefield management system is to be integrated into the system.
Production of HOMAR-K systems will be fully taken in Poland to maximize industrial benefits to the Polish market. Hanwha Aerospace is also committed to making joint efforts with Polish industry partners to export HOMAR-K systems to other global markets.

A map prepared by the Polish Ministry of National Defense was uploaded yesterday showing proposed locations and sensor ranges for the network.
Tethered balloons like those made by Lockheed have been widely used by the US military in the Middle East and are currently deployed in eastern Syria.
The requirements for the project, apparently referred to by the Polish military as "ASRR Barbara", include multi-sensor multi-layer coverage of Poland's eastern and northern borders - that is, border areas with Russia and the Republic of Belarus.
