Iran Plans to Unveil New Home-made Long-Range Radar on Wednesday
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari announced that the Navy plans to unveil its latest long-range phased array radar system called ‘Asr’ next week.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Admiral Sayyari said that the Navy’s new radar system will be unveiled on Wednesday concurrent with November 28 which marks the ‘Navy Day’ in Iran, during which the Navy discloses its latest achievements in weaponry and equipment every year.
In September, Head of the Self-Sufficiency Jihad of the Iranian Navy Rear Admiral Ali Qolamzadeh announced that he Iranian Navy is testing Asr radar.
“This radar which has been manufactured by the experts of the country’s defense industry and Navy is currently undergoing (different) tests and will be mounted on some warships of the Navy in future,” Admiral Qolamzadeh said at the time.
Also in September, Commander of Khatam ol-Anbia Air Defense Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmayeeli announced that it is now using new passive phased array radars to detect stealth targets and cruise missiles.
General Esmayeeli pointed to the designing and building of new passive phased array radars under the name of 'Soundless Project', and said, "The radar is capable of detecting stealth (radar-evading) targets and cruise missiles and enjoys a high movement and mobility capabilities and acts in different ranges."
In December, a senior Iranian military official announced that Iran has equipped its navy with modern electronic warfare systems and radar equipment in a bid to boost its capabilities in sea warfare.
“Given the fact that equipping units with electronic warfare systems is the first need and requirement in sea battles, the Islamic Republic of Iran's Navy has equipped all its surface and subsurface units with these systems,” Spokesman of Velayat 91 Naval Wargames Rear Admiral Amir Rastegari said.
In February, former Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi said that Iran plans to develop different types of radar systems with satellite detecting capabilities.
Addressing the second conference on radar technology systems here in Tehran at the time, Vahidi said Iran has witnessed "a jump" in the field of radar designing and manufacturing.
"Today, we have many achievements in different fields. Radars covering ranges of 500km to 700km have been manufactured and production of radar systems with 1,000km to 3,000km of range is underway," Vahidi explained.
Iran has launched its Fateh-class submarine, the largest it has ever built, into the Persian Gulf, and is building a second at the Caspian port of Bandar Anzali, according to satellite imagery seen by IHS Jane’s Defence Weekly, which is publishing the photographs later on Wednesday.
Jane’s said that at about 48 meters, the Fateh-class is bigger than the largest subs built by North Korea, which is believed to have helped Iran produce its 29-meter Ghadir midget subs. The one being built at Bandar Anzali will also be the first submarine launched in the Caspian.
“This is another step in the militarization of the hydrocarbon-rich Caspian, where Iran has yet to come to an agreement with Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan regarding their territorial boundaries,” Jane’s wrote.
The defense sector weekly said that Iran may be planning to unveil the new subs on Navy Day, November 28th, marking a naval victory over Iraq in 1980.
The unveiling would come just days after a U.S.-brokered international treaty lifted economic sanctions on the regime.
4 fotka odozdo ti pokazuje da nije AESA nego PESA.
This radar uses solid state technology, It means It doesn't need high power magnetron and Klystron lamps, but uses transistors for radiation, decaying or losing and failing one or some of these transistors doesn't prevent radar works properly, radar can work with its other elements.

Research and Self-Sufficiency Jahad Deputy of IRI Navy said:
We needed to produce Submarines between heavy kilo class submarine and light Ghadir Class, So we decided to produce Fateh and Besat to fill gap between these two types of Submarines.
Fateh and Besat uses combination of experience of production of Ghadir and using Kilo Class submarines.
Fateh is 500 tons and Besat is 1200 tons submarine.
Classification of submarines in different countries are different, for example 3000 tons kilo class submarine in russian navy is a small submarine against heavy 11000 tons Typhon submarine, But Kilo class submarine is heavy in our classification for sub-surface equipments in our navy. Ghadir is a small and light submarine in our classification. So medium class subamrines of Fateh and Besat defined to fill gap between Kilo and Ghadir and complete our offnsive and defensive cycle in sub surface forces.
The fist Fateh submarine will be launched next year in 1391 and it will be operational in early 1392.
Fateh benifits very important features, for example it uses 12 types of [passive and active] sonars that enables submarine can be operated actively and passively by these sonars and enables submarine to see behind of itself and detect speed, depth and sound. Of another capabilities of Fateh is that it can act suitably and accurately against enemy's divers.
Now we have focused on construction of first Fateh but design of Besat will be finished till launching Fateh.
We tested a sub surface missile, after that test we started localization of it and we are going to equip all classes of Fateh, Besat, Kilo and Ghadir with this capability to fire sub surface missiles.
Torpedos have limitations like range in comparison to missiles, assume having submarines can fire Ghader missile, this is a big achivement.
We are going to build Fateh and Besat submarine with low noise and equiped with fuel cells and AIP (Air independent propulsion) system and sub-surface missile capability .
