S. Korea launches large-scale aerial drill

Airbus Wins $1.5Bn Korean Contract

Citat:Airbus Helicopters has signed a contract with Korean Aerospace Industries (KAI) to develop and manufacture 314 light helicopters in South Korea, a company official confirmed March 16. The contract was signed by the two companies’ chief executives in Seoul, Korea, earlier today.

The contract, worth an estimated $3 billion, calls for joint development of 214 Light Attack Helicopters (LAH) and about 100 Light Civil Helicopters (LCH), based on the technology of the latest version of the Airbus AS365B1 Dauphin twin-engined medium helicopter, now re-designated H155. The two companies will share revenues from the contract on an even basis.

South Korean tanker acquisition delayed by 12 months

Citat:The introduction of an in-flight refuelling capability for South Korea has reportedly been postponed by some 12 months, following a delay in downselecting one of the three bids for the deal.

A decision on the bids was expected to be made at the end of 2014, ahead of entry to service in 2017, but according to local news agency Yonhap, a decision will now be made in June 2015 and Seoul will now begin fielding the tanker in 2018.

Bidding for the $1.3 billion four-aircraft deal are Boeing with its 767-based KC-46; Airbus Defence & Space with the Airbus A330 MRTT; and Israel Aerospace Industries with a Boeing 767-300ER-derived tanker transport using second-hand aircraft.

Korea, KAI Finalize LCH/LAH Helicopter Project

Citat:South Korea’s defense acquisition agency has struck a deal with Korea Aerospace Industries, the country’s sole aircraft maker, to develop home-built military and civilian helicopters by 2022, officials said Wednesday.

With the deal worth 1.64 trillion won ($1.49 billion), Seoul seeks to develop the “Light Armed Helicopter” to replace aging 500MD and AH-1S military choppers, based on the “Light Civil Helicopter” that will also be developed under the deal.
