Asia Wants Croatia to Equip 51,000 Officers
Even though the amount Croatia exports to the world is very low, a trickle of hope has appeared. At the international fair “Intrade Malaysia” in the city of Kuala Lumpur, that was held between November 13 and 16, the HKSO “Croatian Cluster (of companies) for Special Clothing” attracted incredible interest and beat the competition from 50 countries that participated in it, including the USA.
That part of the world is full of orders right now. So, for example, Singapore’s army wants HKSO to produce 16,000 sets of military equipment for soldiers, and Malaysia wants 35,000 police uniforms and equipment for their police officers.
According to the manager of the national centre for clusters Zlatko Ivankovic, the Asians are delighted with the low price and quality of Croatian products.
“After the fair finished, we received 275 inquiries for the companies of the Croatian textile industry, mostly from Malaysia, but from Tanzania, Kenya, Uzbekistan, Egypt and Ghana. Those countries, especially Malaysia, are not suffering a recession like the west is, and are experiencing an economic boom, so there is more money than they can spend” said Ivankovic.
So, for example, the company Jacquard d.o.o, which produces woven and printed insignia, sold their entire stock during the fair. Besides that company, the cluster is comprised of the company Sestan-Busch from Preloga, which produces combat helmets that are amongst those of the highest quality in the world, Cateks from Cakovec, which produces camouflage clothing, and Jelen from Cakovec, which produces military boots, as well as others.
They have not yet signed any concrete contracts with Malaysian companies, stressed Ivankovic, but there are great possibilities, because HKSO can produce military ecquipment for 100,000 soldiers per year, which according to the Asian hosts, is of higher quality than the more famous manufacturers.
“Our military boots passed better during testing than the American ones, and the prices are lower. They are more interested in price and quality, and not brand” says Ivankovic.
This is how HKSO has established cooperation with the Malaysian Ministry of Defence, who are in the process of testing boots by the Jelen company, camouflage clothing by the Cateks company, and combat helmets by the Sestan-Busch company.
