Royal Air Force raids on IS leave ONE THIRD of fighter jets out of action
Citat:Ministry of Defence figures show that 36 of the 91 Typhoon fighters and 39 of 96 Tornados are grounded needing repairs. RAF sources say campaigns in Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya have taken a heavy toll on fighter aircraft.
Citat:The workload for Tornados and the more up-to-date £60million Typhoons soared after controversial defence cuts which scrapped the entire fleet of RAF and Royal Navy Harriers in 2010.
A source said: “The Tornados are coming to the end of their life. They require increasing maintenance and upgrades to keep them in the air. They have taken a real battering.
“But what will really worry the top brass are the numbers of Typhoons grounded. One in three is undergoing some form of servicing.”
