Type 07 Uniform
As the Type 87 and Type 97 series uniforms are both becoming obsolete, the PLA developed the new generation Type 07 series uniform, which is scheduled to make its debut on 1 August 2007 to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the People’s Liberation Army. The delivery of the new uniform across all four service branches of the PLA is expected to be completed by December 2009, shortly after the 60th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China.
The new Type 07 uniforms will include ceremonial dress uniforms, service uniforms, and combat uniforms. The style of these uniforms will be closer to those of Western military forces.
The ceremonial dress uniforms are intended for officers, army band, and honour guard. The uniforms consist of a service cap, coat, trousers, shirt, tie, socks, shoes, etc.
All officers and enlisted personnel will have a winter service uniform, a spring/autumn service uniform, and a summer service uniform, consisting of service cap, beret, coats, long coat, jumper, trousers, shirts, tie, socks, shoes, etc.
Combat uniforms will include general duty summer and winter combat uniforms and special purpose protection uniforms in four basic camouflage patterns: woodland, desert, urban, and ocean, all in the "Flecktarn" pattern.
Accessories will include cap badge, collar badge, rank insignia, name badge, service branch badge, arm badge, ribbon, etc.
The new ceremonial and service uniforms for the ground forces are in a cold pine-green colour in contrast to the warmer army-green used by the Type 87 uniforms. Improvements have been made to the fabric and fit. The original jacket style summer combat uniform has been replaced by a coat design with straight cut bottom.
