Boeing eyes USN's Growler for conformal fuel tank upgrade

Citat:The US Navy's (USN's) EA-18G Growler is a prime candidate for conformal fuel tanks being offered as a modular upgrade under Boeing's Advanced Super Hornet package, according to the company.

The conformal fuel tanks, which Boeing is building with its own money in partnership with Northrop Grumman, are capable of carrying 3,500 lb (1,587.7 kg) of fuel and are designed to reduce radar cross-section and minimise drag.

In addition to the tanks, Boeing's Advanced Super Hornet package includes other upgrade options such as a new General Electric F-414-400 enhanced-performance engine and an expanded electronic attack capability.

Ovo bi bilo zahebano sletanje i na obični aerodrom a kamo li na nosač.

Boeing looks to Congress to fund fighters after Navy skips orders

Navy’s IRST system successfully completes first flight aboard F/A-18

The system can simultaneously track multiple targets and provide a highly effective air-to-air targeting capability, even when encountering advanced threats equipped with radar-jamming technology.

Because IRST is passive, unlike radar systems, it does not give off radiation and is harder to detect.

Pazi stvarno, nisam ni obračao pažnju nato da amerikanci jako malo koriste IRST na svojim lovcima. Uglavnom su IRST ugrađivali za izvoz, saudijski lovci F-16 i F-15 imaju ugrađene IRST sprave, što u zmaj što u posebne pilone.
