US Won’t Compensate Australia for Faulty EA-18G Fighter
Citat:The United States won’t compensate Australia for a defective US-made EA-18G Growler fighter jet that caught fire during a training exercise due to an engine malfunction, Air Vice-Marshal Greg Hoffman told the country’s Senate Estimates Committee on 29 November.
The specialised version of the F/A-18F Super Hornet jet, which cost Australian taxpayers 85 million dollars, burst into flames while attempting to take off at a US military base in Nevada in 2018. The Australian Defence Force scrapped the aircraft from its service, leaving it with 11 Growler fighter jets in its fleet.
Asked why Canberra won’t be reimbursed for the jet that broke down, not because of a pilot error, but due to technical malfunction, Air Vice-Marshal Greg Hoffman said that the jets had been purchased under a contract that didn’t allow for compensation.

Northrop Grumman Wins RAAF Growler Upgrade Contract
Citat:Northrop Grumman has been awarded a US$35,200,000 contract to produce and deliver kits required to modify ALQ-218 avionics in support of EA-18G Growler upgrades for the RAAF.
The work will take place in the US and is scheduled for completion by 2022.
The contract is to build Airborne Electronic Attack System Enhancements program AN/ALQ-218 recurring kits, which will be retrofitted into US Navy and RAAF Growlers.
The AN/ALQ-218 installed on the Growler uses a combination of jamming and listening to enable geo-location, parameter measurement, intentional modulation-on-pulse detection and enemy radar threat jamming. It uses a unique combination of short and long baseline interferometer techniques along with a patented passive ranging algorithm to geo-locate ground-based emitters.

US Navy receives first SLM-upgraded Super Hornet
Citat:The US Navy (USN) has received back into service the first of its Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet combat aircraft to go through the Service-Life Modification (SLM) process, the company announced on 6 February.
The twin-seat F/A-18F from Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 106 'Gladiators' that was first delivered to the fleet in 2004 was the first of "more than 450" Super Hornets to undergo a comprehensive refurbishment through to 2033, Boeing said.
As noted by Boeing, the initial Super Hornets delivered from the programme will extend the service life from 6,000 to 7,500 flight hours. Future modification plans in the early 2020s will enable the jets to fly 10,000 hours and incorporate the new Block 3 capabilities.

Navy Cuts Super Hornet Production to Develop Next-Generation Fighter
Citat:The Navy wants to truncate production of the legacy F/A-18E/F Super Hornet in favor of pumping money into accelerating the development of its long-gestating next-generation carrier-based fighter program, the service revealed in its Fiscal Year 2021 budget request.
Next year’s order of two dozen F/A-18E/F Super Hornets would be the last on the books for the Navy under this plan. In 2019, Super Hornet maker Boeing won a $4-billion multi-year contract to buy 78 Super Hornets through FY 2021.
According to the justification in the documents, the money the Navy for planned a subsequent multiyear buy of 36 Super Hornets from FY 2022 to 2024 would be rerouted to “accelerated development of Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) and other key aviation wholeness investments,” read the documents.
