 Citat:The XF-92A was the world’s first delta wing jet aircraft to fly. The Convair Model 7002 was completed in 1948 as a flying demonstrator for the proposed ramjet-powered XP-92 interceptor. When the XP-92's engine proved impractical to build, that project was shelved, but Model 7002 work continued. Delivered in May 1949 and designated XF-92A, it was flown by US Air Force and NACA test pilots until a minor landing accident in October 1953 ended its career. However, work on the XF-92 led to the F-102 Delta Dagger interceptor. Here, the lone XF-92A is towed at the Convair plant in San Diego, California, in front of six B-36s undergoing modification in the spring of 1951. The XF-92 was delivered to the Air Force Museum in 1969.
