Izvinjavam se ako je bilo -
ovo je jedan od prvih crteža budućeg prototipa F-14 pod nazivom Grumman Design 303-60 iz januara 1968 godine. U suštini konture aviona kakvog danas poznajemo dosta su slične ali najveća razlika jeste u vertikalnom stabilizatoru koji ovaj projekat ima samo jedan...

Citat:The F-14 Tomcat...sleek...powerful...deadly...and the REAL star of the movie Top Gun. The F-14 Tomcat followed a history of "Cats" in the military. The F-4F Wildcat and the F-6F Hellcat that fought in the skies years before the Tomcat ever bit the air. In the late 1960's, the US Navy dropped its TFX program, and decided to focus on an aircraft dedicated to fleet defense. Grumman had already begun developing the F-14, and was definitely headed for a "Cat" designation. The person responsible for this project was Admiral Tom Conolly, Deputy Chief, Naval Operations for Air. The aircraft was dubbed "Tom's Cat" long before the official name of "Tomcat" was ever adopted.

Ultimately, model 303E was developed into the Grumman F-14 Tomcat.

During the period 1966-67 while trying to trim (although carve would be more appropriate) weight from the F-111B, the US Navy was also providing funding to Grumman to look into advanced fighter studies. By 1967 this had led Grumman to suggest taking the VFAX airframe and wrapping it around the F-111B engines and AN/AWG-9/Phoenix weapons system. The extensive use of titanium would be one way of lightening up the airframe and moving away from the weight issues that beset the F-111B, and the new airframe would meet the air superiority requirements that were emerging from the future fighter studies. Liking what they saw, the US Navy funded another round of studies, Navy Fighter Study II, between Feb-Mar 1968. During this study they compared, on paper, a proposed VFX (Grumman design 303-60) vs the F-111B and without question, the F-111B was smoked. The twin engined, single tailed VFX would out accelerate, climb and turn the F-111B and the F-4 Phantom II by significant margins.

Israeli Defense Forces/AF je u periodu od 1973 do 1975 vrsio testiranje i izbor novog borbenog aviona "teen" generacije. U izboru su bili F-14 i F-15 :
Aktuelni Order of battle middle east je veoma lako je mogao bude potpuno drugaciji.
Macor je tek 2000. godine osposobljen za dejstvovanje po zemaljskim ciljevima. To je bio razlog zasto ga Marinci i i IDF nisu hteli.
Postoji podatak da je jedan macor oboren od strane Miraza F1.

Van svake sumnje, osnovna namena Tomcat-a je presretanje i odbrana pomorskih borbenih grupa i on je u tome, po svemu sudeci, bio veoma uspesno resenje.
Testiranja od strane IDF/AF su bila detaljna, a kriterijumi izbora "zivotno" prakticni.

Иако је тако касно интегрисан систем за гађање по земаљским циљевима, мачор је неочекивано надмашио стршљење у тим задацима...мачор је био и стао по мени најбољи авион икада направљен...јесте да волим руску технику, али стварно скидам капу грумановим инжењерима на конструисању изузетног авиона. и права је штета што овај авион није модернизован па да је летео још једно 10-15 година у морнарици САД...

Macor je tek 2000. godine osposobljen za dejstvovanje po zemaljskim ciljevima. To je bio razlog zasto ga Marinci i i IDF nisu hteli.
Malo ranije je bio osposobljen - čitao sam negde jedan podatak da je korišćen i u Bosni 95-te u dejstvu laserskim bombama što je i mene iznenadilo...
