Citat:The MQ-4C is a much advanced version than the first generation Global Hawk Block 10: it is believed to be a sort of Block 20 and Block 30 Global Hawk hybrid, carrying Navy payload. With a 130.9-foot wingspan, the giant drone features an AN/ZPY-3 multi-function active-sensor (MFAS) radar system, that gives the Triton the ability to cover more than 2.7 million square miles in a single Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance (ISR) mission.

Triton je mornarićka varianta. Ima ugrađen radar za nadzor mora.

Australia to buy seven drones for border protection

Citat:The Australian government would spend around 3 billion Australian dollars to purchase seven large unmanned aircraft for the country's border protection, local media reported Saturday.

The aircraft would be primarily used for military purposes such as spotting enemy ships and planes in a conflict, but they can also be used to detect asylum seekers since the drone can search an area of 40,000 square nautical miles in a single mission.

Defense Minister David Johnston would soon refer to the cabinet for its first pass approval of 3 billion dollars for the seven U.S. made MQ-4C Triton, a maritime version of the Global Hawk.

Johnston also attacked the former Labor government for withdrawing from the unmanned aircraft program in 2009 after spent 100 million dollars in the development of American company Northrop Grumman's Global Hawk drone program.

"I was extremely disappointed," said the minister, quoted by The Australian newspaper.

According to the plan, the seven new drone would be deployed in a air force base close to the southern city of Adelaide and will replace the current aging fleet of P-3 Orion surveillance planes.

This potentially involves the expansion and enhancement of existing facilities and infrastructure at RAAF Base Edinburgh. The total number of Triton UAVs to be acquired and their introduction into service date will be further considered by Government in 2016, based on the Defence White Paper.

Triton Unmanned Air System completes initial flight test phase
Citat:NAVAIR declared that the MQ-4C Triton has completed its Initial Envelope Expansion flight testing at Northrop Grumman’s Palmdale facility on Mar. 13.

The unmanned aircraft will now undergo planned maintenance before making its first cross-country flight this summer to NAS Patuxent River.

British crew to starting training on MQ-4C

Navy’s Triton unmanned aircraft completes first cross-country flight

Citat:During the approximately 11-hour 3,290 nautical mile flight originating from Northrop Grumman’s Palmdale, California, facility, the Triton flew along the southern U.S. border, the Gulf of Mexico and across Florida via an approved instrument route. Operators navigated the aircraft up the Atlantic Coast and Chesapeake Bay at altitudes in excess of 50,000 feet to ensure there were no conflicts with civilian air traffic.
