PWR3 su americki reaktori S9G sa virginia SSN licencno proizvedeni u rollsroysu , Admiralitet je odustao od razvoja sopstvenih reaktora zakljucujuci sa PWR2, zbog velikih problema u eksplataciji istih.

Astute klasa ima 90 clanova posade ali i veliki problem sa smanjenim prostorom za smestaj posade , sto se velikim Australijancima mozda i nece svideti , Engleski Admiralitet vec godinama slusa prituzbe na dizajn prostora za smestaj posade na Astute klasi , sto je velika znacajka ako provodis 90+ dana ispod vode u ogranicenom prostoru.

Problem u vezi Astute je sam proizvodni kapacitet. Ona se radi tako polako, da su (još) svi dobavljaći u funkciji. Jedinu pravu serijsku proizvodnju nuklearnih podmornica imaju Ameri i Rusi, dizelskih Nemci i Rusi.

Australia’s first nuclear submarine won’t be ready until about 2040 if it’s built in Adelaide. By importing nuclear boats, that might be brought forward to 2031 or even 2030. But that would still leave the submarine force at its current, inadequate level in the 2020s, which are looking increasingly dangerous.
Second-hand Japanese submarines, by contrast, might be acquired very quickly and cheaply, and, having perhaps seven years of life left in them, wouldn’t hang around as doubtful assets into the 2060s.
The Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force takes delivery of one submarine a year. For any other navy, that would imply a fleet of about 30 boats, since a submarine can typically serve for something like 30 years. But the force is not funded to operate so many and instead retires them early.
Until a few years ago, the fleet comprised 18 submarines. The number is now 23 and soon due to rise to 24, including two training boats.

Australia’s Collins-class submarines to get $381 million upgrade
Citat:The Royal Australian Navy’s Collins-class submarines will be upgraded with a new “cutting-edge optronics system”, according to the announcement made by the country’s Defence Minister Peter Dutton.

As disclosed, the $381 million dollar investment into optronics will essentially replace an aged technology on the submarines.

The optronics system is expected to help maintain the tactical advantage in intelligence gathering, surveillance, reconnaissance, and anti-surface warfare for the submarines.

“It’ll give a much quicker read on what the submarine can see outside. It means the periscope doesn’t have to be exposed and to provide that extra point of vulnerability for the submarines,” Dutton noted.

The first submarine to undergo the upgrade will be HMAS Rankin, while the technology is expected to be operational by 2026. The refitting process is scheduled to start from 2024.
